The Institute for Free Speech is excited to announce that Charles “Chip” Miller has joined the Institute as a Senior Attorney. His deep commitment to free expression and accomplished background makes him a great addition to our legal team in defending First Amendment freedoms.

“We are pleased to welcome Chip Miller to the Institute for Free Speech. His outstanding experience as an appellate judge and private sector and government litigator make him a valuable addition to our team,” said Institute for Free Speech President David Keating.

“Both the right to speak, and the right to listen, are under assault.  The expression of unpopular ideas and even factual truths is sometimes labeled as ‘violence,’” Miller said.  “I am honored to join the Institute for Free Speech in protecting the realm of ideas.  It is only through open and honest communication with one another that the American ideal can prosper.”

Miller brings a wealth of experience to the organization. He previously served as Ohio’s Deputy Attorney General, where he directed major litigation. Before joining the state AG’s office as General Counsel, he served as a judge for the First Appellate District of Ohio and had also served as a “visiting judge” on the Ohio Supreme Court. Prior to entering public service, Miller spent over 10 years at Keating, Muething & Klekamp, PLL as a litigation partner arguing cases before the Sixth Circuit and the Ohio Supreme Court.

Miller has extensive litigation and appellate experience and has spearheaded important regulatory matters. His previous work includes advancing innovative protections of free expression and competition in the digital sphere.

Miller is a graduate of Boston University College of Law and clerked for Justice Maureen O’Connor at the Ohio Supreme Court. Among other honors, Miller was selected to represent Boston University at the National First Amendment Moot Court.
