The Institute for Free Speech is pleased to announce that Glynis Gilio has joined the organization for a one-year term as a First Amendment Fellow. In this role, she will work alongside the Institute’s attorneys to tackle all aspects of trial and appellate practice in cases challenging restrictions on Americans’ rights to freely speak, publish, assemble, and petition.
Glynis explains, “The First Amendment is the cornerstone of my education. I’m overjoyed to be working at IFS, not only because I’m able to work in an area of law to which I’m deeply devoted, but because I know that, as a member of the IFS team, my work will contribute to the most fundamental pursuit of our republic – the preservation of liberty.”
Prior to joining IFS, Glynis worked as a Legal Fellow at Statecraft PLLC, The Fund for American Studies, Pacific Legal Foundation, the Goldwater Institute, and Freedom Foundation. Glynis was also an Inaugural Member of the Academy Fellowship at The Heritage Foundation. In 2021, she was the recipient of the John Norton Distinguished Fellow Award for her work at the Scharf-Norton Center for Constitutional Litigation at the Goldwater Institute.
Glynis graduated magna cum laude with a J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law (2021) and graduated cum laude from Hillsdale College with a B.A. in History and Theatre (2018). Glynis is currently a District of Columbia Bar Candidate.
As a law student, Glynis was a member of the Federalist Society, Student Bar Association, First Amendment Law Clinic, Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurial Law Clinic, Trademark Moot Court, and Board of Advocates. She is also a graduate of the Geoffrey Fieger Trial Practice Institute, where she received the highest distinction for her civil trial advocacy skills. In addition, Glynis was a Research Assistant for Professor Jeremy Francis, where she contributed to numerous textbooks on legal writing, including Just Briefs: Preparing for Practice, Fourth Edition and The Legal Writing Handbook: Analysis, Research, and Writing, Eighth Edition. Upon graduating, Glynis was ranked the top oral advocate in the Class of 2021 by a panel of federal judges.
Prior to attending law school, Glynis worked as Member Staff for Rt. Honourable Ben Wallace in the House of Commons of Parliament in London, where she conducted research on domestic and foreign defense.
In addition to her IFS fellowship, Glynis is an adjunct professor of First Amendment and Media Law at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
